In the absence of other events running, the sailors at Leigh & Lowton decided the North West needed a long-distance race somewhere in the season. Leigh & Lowton SC restarted their annual Guy Fawkes Pursuit Race on Sunday 7th November, having had to cancel last year for COVID lockdown reasons. It was great to see 17 boats from all over the north region arrive at Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club for the North West Optimist Championships. Light winds and shifty conditions meant it was tricky sailing, and the race officer did well to get 4 races in. It was a Regatta Weekend like no other, with no visitors and no big party on Saturday night, but club members enjoyed some friendly competition despite it all. 3 days before the start of Lockdown 2, Leigh & Lowton were able to conclude their 2020 Trophy Days and anoint their Club Champions (virtually of course!).
