VR Club Champs produces a corker of a Finale!!

The competition on Virtual Regatta at Leigh & Lowton has been fierce during April, with series on Wednesday nights, Friday night juniors and Sundays getting people warmed up for the Club Championships at the end of April. At stake was the title of Club VR Champ but also the opportunity to represent the club at the RYA Regional Championships later in May, with the carrot of a National Final beyond that if successful. Internet connection issues aside, the VR has...

LLSC Winter Series Week 4 – another strong turnout

Over 70 boats took part in Week 4 of the Tipsy Icicle Series at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club, after racing never got off the ground last week due to lack of wind.  The forecast was for the wind to start in the South and swing around to the West during the day, which was exactly what happened.  So, the first race was held around-the-cans with the wind across the lake at around 8 knots while the second was nearly...

Perfect Racing Day for 2nd Weekend of Tipsy

The number of competitors increased for the second Sunday of the Tipsy Icicle Series at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club.  The forecast of moderate winds down the flash must have got the 80 boats out of bed in the morning, with nearly 100 sailors on the water from over 20 clubs around the North West.  This was going to make it a tough day for OOD Owen Griffiths and Dave Rowlands to keep control of the start lines, but some...

Junior Winter Regatta

The ever-popular Junior Winter Regatta at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club drew in 40 entries from right across the North of England & Wales for a fabulous day of junior racing on January 11th 2020.  A few had been put off by forecasts of up to 37 knots, but the local team were confident that conditions would be sailable with the wind from a more sheltered Southerly direction.  In the event, the wind rarely got above 15 knots and went...

A fine start to the Tipsy Icicle Series

70 entries for the first Sunday of the Tipsy Icicle Series at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club made for some great competition across all the fleets.  There was disappointment initially as a fickle 2-3 knot SSE wind greeted the fleet as they launched.  However, with only a couple of minutes left to the Laser warning signal the forecast breeze filtered in from the forecast SW with 8-10 knots.  After relocating the start line for the new breeze the fleet got...
