Accessible Sailing

RYA Sailability at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club

Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club is an affiliated RYA Sailability club, offering people with disabilities the opportunity to experience the enjoyment and freedom of sailing.

We have three Hansa dinghies available for members to use, providing accessible sailing opportunities in a safe and supportive environment.

What is Sailability?

Through RYA Sailability, more than 20,000 people with disabilities have been able to experience sailing and take part in the sport regularly.

Sailing is one of the few sports where disabled and able-bodied sailors can participate together on equal terms. Imagine the thrill of sailing for someone who can see and hear but cannot walk, or the excitement of sailing a boat at speed without being able to walk. For someone who is deaf, communication barriers need not prevent them from enjoying the sport.

RYA Sailability continues to encourage and support people with disabilities to take up sailing, while helping clubs and sailing organisations develop accessible opportunities.
