Revett Series Week 4 – the penultimate weekend

45 boats took to the water for the 4th week of the Revett winter series at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club. Another week of classic conditions; this time 8-14 knots from the the SW gave competitors some excellent racing conditions, with significant gains available from the bands of winds raking down and across the flash. OOD Steve Norris was able to lay an excellent round-the-cans course with good beats and runs and the odd reach thrown in for good measure....

Leigh & Lowton Revett Series continues to sparkle

The 3rd week of the Revett winter series at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club produced the best sailing conditions yet. An 8-12 knot NE breeze enabled OOD Graeme Bristow and his team to lay out 2 superb separate courses across the Flash from one start boat. This kept the Asymmetrics happy with their windward-leeward format and the other fleets had clear wind and mark roundings.  Onlookers had plenty of action to follow, and were “tweeting” on the live feed….. The...

Sparkling Champagne Conditions at Leigh & Lowton

The Revett winter series continued into its 2nd week at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club and competitors were greeted with by a fresh Easterly blowing down the lake and sunshine to boot. The wind didn’t quite behave to forecast and kept teasing the OOD Caroline Exley and her team with a Northerly tendency. This created a day of tough strategies for competitors and you could be hero one minute and licking your wounds the next as places chopped and changed...

Sunshine & Shifts for the Revett Series Opener

The first Sunday of the Revett winter series at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club brought a light drizzle for the early risers, but sunshine for the rest of the day. The OOD Dave Exley and his team overcame some testing conditions to set true upwind legs and the 50 competitors were rewarded with some excellent, if shifty, racing in a 5-12 knot S/SW breeze. First out of the blocks (with not a general recall in sight) were the Laser fleet....

Tense finish to Guy Fawkes Pursuit Race

Andy Dawson was the clear winner of a very tight finish to the Guy Fawkes Pursuit Race at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club on Sunday November 3rd.  All the top 6 finishers were within 50 metres of each other at the finish, making the OOD split them carefully; difficult when asymmetrics are sailing a different direction to the rest of the fleet downwind! A force 2 saw the groups of youngsters come off the start line well with a strong...

Harvey Leigh wins Laser 4.7 Inlands

The breezy conditions at Laser Inlands at Rutland were to Harvey’s liking.  At times the conditions were marginal for racing and he and Scott Forbes (Loch Lomond) battled it out at the front, head and shoulders above the rest of the fleet.  Needing to win the last race to win the event, Harvey finished first with Scott trailing behind in 5th which was enough to clinch it!  A great result and just rewards for the effort he’s put in over...

Great conditions for the NWJTT series final 2018 event

Well done to the all the 18 entries from the Leigh & Lowton juniors for making the event a spectacular success.  In particular, congratulations to Ben Welfare for winning the Oppie event and the series and Thomas Link for his 4th in the Handicap, winning the 1st U14 prize.  In the handicap series results Lorcan Knowles finished 2nd and Noe Peckham 8th. Forecast was for 11 knots with 19 knots gusts northerly from XC, 13knots with 22 knot gusts from...

Blowing “old boots” at the Endeavour Trophy

Lorcan Knowles, a long standing junior member at the club, qualified for the Endeavour “Champion of Champions Trophy” this year by winning the Laser 4.7 Nationals hosted at Plymouth.  The event takes place these days in RS200s at Burnham-on Crouch with all the National Champions from fleets with 50+ competitors invited to take part, a very prestigious event. The RS200 is an unfamiliar boat for Lorcan and he had got practice and tips beforehand with club members and his chosen...
