Here Come The Zone Girls !

There might be boys on the front row of the RYA zone racing and training photo taken before the sailing but they weren’t around front row of the finish line. It was girls girls girls. So well done to Sian Talbot, Charlotte Rockett and well deserved overall event winner Ellie Driver. Luke Shaw head coach had special mentions for Eloise Clapson-Mcbride who made a plucky capsize recovery and to Jonny Lathom who was overall best starter in the training… It...

LLSC Success at RYA Zone Squad Championships

Podium finishes for LLSC in every class at the weekends RYA West Zone Squad champs. LLSC junior sailors continued with their recent top form with a first and third in the optimists from Archie Leckie and Harvey Leigh, a win in the RS Fevas from brother Matt Leckie and Izzy Bristow and a second in the Toppers from Lorcan Knowles. The wind was gusting to about 2mph which made for very challenging racing. Many more LLSC sailors secured the squad positions they were...

LLSC gets 1st 1st 1st at Travellers

LLSC Juniors cleaned up again in the first open meeting after their largest training camp ever in the North West. All 3 fleets at the Redesmere North West Travellers event were claimed by LLSC sailors. Peter Baldwin, OOD on the day praised the effort of LLSC club sailors. He wasn’t prepared to add up the number LLSC sailors who travelled to the event and presented the prize (chocolates) to Lorcan Knowles . They did not last very long. Youth 1st Gareth Staples-Jones...

Junior Camp

With 50 children on the LLSC Summer 2014 Camp it was always going to be a tough job for the instructors. The challenge was made all the more harder on day 1 with an Easterly 15 knots wind 15 gusting 25 blowing straight down the Flash. The great news is that all the children got out on the water and most enjoyed it. There were a few capsizes and the four rescue boats were pressed into service.    Emptyish dinghy park....

Toughest Racing of the Year

Remember the first time you ever raced a dinghy? Today eight new junior sailors joined normal Saturday racing for their first ever official taste of club racing in the OpTop Olympics which was run along with Saturday Racing. Before the start they were given a whistle stop tour of the OOD box by officer of the day, Alistair Coates. He explained all the rules so there would be no disputes whatsoever!!! Intermediate coach Robert Leigh was on the water to...

NWJTT Photos and Results

The 2014 LLSC Junior Travellers will be remembered by all for the glorious sunshine and favorable wind. A westerly F2/3 allowed the Race Officer Mike Baldwin to set a simple trapezoid course with a beat up most of the length of Pennington Flash with a wing mark near the club house for a good view by the spectators. The 48 sailors behaved themselves on 8 of the 9 starts with only one errant Laser sailor over the line on the last start sequence of the day....

LLSC Clean sweep at Junior Travellers

Six members of Team Etech shown on the photo at the Optimist Inlands were recognisable as LLSC juniors. Cool pose Archie. Not quite as cool as the subsequent bullet he claimed in the 200+ fleet though. Just to prove that our lake trained sailors can ‘do it on the sea’ we took a record number of boats including 10 Optimists to West Kirby in the 3 fleets of the junior travellers. Great course set on the Dee estuary in a North...

Crewsaver Tipsy Icicle Week 2 – Another Punchy Sou’easter

The most popular dinghy winter series in the UK, the ‘Crewsaver’ sponsored Tipsy Icicle series at  Leigh & Lowton sailing club, recommenced on the 12th January with another fantastic turnout for races 3 & 4 in the series. Due to events elsewhere and a few ‘no-shows’ there was a reduced turn out this weekend but we still managed to get 78 boats actually on the water and racing of which 25 were new to the series.  This means that to date, only two...

On Sunday 29th September Leigh & Lowton sailing club hosted their Solo open meeting.  The format was agreed as four races in total with two back to back, lunch and the remaining two back to back. On arrival the sun was shining without a cloud in the sky and the wind was blowing a good Force 5 from the east.  The strength of the wind put a few people off but allowed the race team to use...
