Scoring Help Sheet
Club racing – Officer of the Day information.
Below is some information for this season’s club racing, hopefully most of which will be familiar to you.
The Excel workbook has been updated with the latest PYs and is called 2013 Club Races.xlsm and is located in the middle of the Desktop. It is a macro enabled file, hence the file extension .xlsm
Entering data.
There are 5 tabs – Asymmetric, Handicap, Laser, Solo and 1 spare.
For Saturday racing all boats can be scored on any one sheet. Please ensure you complete the Elapsed time column (E).
For Sunday racing all boats can be scored on any one sheet except Solos. Please ensure you complete the Elapsed time column (E) for the Handicap fleet. Solos can be scored on finishing positions only. You don’t have to record Solo times.
Scoring Codes
If a boat fails to complete the course put the appropriate code in column E in the spreadsheet:
DNF – use when a boat retires, receives assistance from the safety boat or other outside help.
OCS – use when a boat is over the line at the start of the race and does not obey your recall signal.
DSQ – use when a boat sails the wrong course.
There is no need to record individual boats as DNC. All boats not in the race
are automatically DNC.
If you make a mistake entering a boat class or number of laps, use right click, clear contents or clear the formula bar entry. Just pressing the spacebar doesn’t work.
Do not delete any rows from a worksheet. That will affect the class PY numbers, which are way over there —> out of sight.
Printing
Each worksheet has been pre-formatted for printing. Each tab will print on one sheet of paper all the relevant columns (A – H) and up to 28 boats per fleet in landscape format. If you get more than 28 boats in one fleet you will need to extend the print area.
Do not forget to change the race number cell when scoring subsequent races.
The paperwork
Save your file as to the Desktop in the format Date Race 1.xlsm Date Race 2.xlsm, etc. They will be cleared away each week, the Desktop should remain uncluttered. Please print 2 copies of your spreadsheet, 1 for the noticeboard and 1 for the results secretary.
Please leave one copy printout, the sign on sheet and your working out sheets in the envelope stuck on the cabinet door if not collected from you on the day.
If the results are not collected on the day, they will be picked up on Monday morning. There is no need to save the results to a USB stick.
In the unlikely event a boat enters that is not in the database on the day, make a note of the boat class, sail number, laps and time on the spreadsheet and hopefully we will be able to add the result later directly into the Sailwave scoring system.
If you get asked, below are the boats that will be sailing with a “LLSC PY number” that is different to the RYA PY. Even though it is a local PY number, it has been approved by the RYA for our local conditions

Help on the day
If you come across a problem with which you need help there will be plenty of experienced members available to help you run the day smoothly.
The following members have volunteered to be Race Officer Advisors on the day, so feel free to seek them out if needed:
Paul Allen, Mike Baldwin, Mike Broatch, Olive Connor, Jeremy Entwistle, Dave Exley, John Murphy, Cathy Partington and Dave Shiel.
Please allow the advisors plenty of time to rig their boat if you need assistance prior to a race.
