A sunny & chilly day with a pleasant but shifty force 1-2 from the north east greeted the 66 boats which arrived to take part in the second weekend of the 2012 series. Now in total 101 boats have taken to the water for this series alone. The race teams for the day consisted of Gareth Williams on the water and Anne Baldwin in the galley.

Series race 3 started at 12 noon on the dot with the asymmetric fleet. The fleet was led by Mike Hart & Sally Kirkpatrick (Leigh & Lowton SC/RS400), Dave Exley & Nigel Hall (Leigh & Lowton SC/RS400) and Martin & Liam Parker (Leigh & Lowton SC/RS400). The first race in the laser fleet was dominated Graham Macwhirter (Scammonden Water), Glyn Purnell (Leigh & Lowton SC) and John Wingeatt (Leigh & Lowton SC) who all showed great boat speed and consistency. The handicap fleet was dominated by Mark Lunn & Steve Blackburn (West Lancashire YC/Enterprise) and Sian Talbot (Leigh & Lowton SC/Optimist).
After a hearty lunch the second race of the day was sailed in less breeze than race 3. The asymmetric fleet was again led by Mike & Sally with Dave & Nigel, Hamish Gledhill & Simon Dowse (West Riding/RS400) and the Parker boys all close behind. Race 4 in the laser fleet witnessed Graham doing another horizon job. The handicap fleet was dominated by Christian Day & Sophie Richards (National 12) in the second race with Mark & Steve both close behind.
The Solo fleet (starting as part of the handicap fleet start) was given a master class by Chris Gillard (Sheffield Viking) with Steve White (Leigh & Lowton SC), Brian Sprague (Leigh & Lowton SC) and Ian Hopwood (Leigh & Lowton SC) also in attendance.
All in all it was an excellent day at the club with close racing throughout the fleets. Thanks to all the visitors for coming to the club and to everyone from the club who helped to run the day. See you all on November 25th round three.
