Guy Fawkes Pursuit
A bright and breezy day greeted the 50+ competitors for the annual Guy Fawkes Pursuit at Leigh & Lowton.
3 brave young optimists got the show on the road followed by the remaining club sailors and 15 visitors.
Gusts of up to 16 knots came through on the first few laps before the wind settled down to a more moderate 8-10 knots later in the race.
The Solo of Mike Simms made the best of the early conditions to avoid being caught by the faster boats at the end of the race, there was a real battle in the following places with the RS400’s just squeezing past the GP14’s at the death.
Lorcan Knowles in his Topper picked up first junior prize and the Endevour prize went to John Bridgeman for staying out right to the end of this 3 hour epic for Optimists. There was some gear failure around the races course and a good number of the fleet were penalised for errors in course navigation.
An excellent day out for all, many thanks to the race team for some great racing – come and join us for the New Years Day Pursuit in a couple of months’ time.
