Winter PY Performance

Below is the data extracted from the RYA PYS website which does the PY returns for the club and also our local handicaps. The website calculates the performance of each sailor in each race and assigns the “sailed to PY” rating. To pull the data together the “sailed to PY” has been averaged to give each Crew there average PY for the Winter Series. Crews which done 8 races or more over the winter are shown below

Asymmetric Fleet

The Asymmetric fleet was dominated by the teams of the Allen’s, Pickels & Sharman and Exley & Hall as seen by the final day showdown. All of the teams sailing to within a few points of each other over the winter series around the PY mark of 895 (-46). The award for “his head has gone” goes to the Parkers, after sailing a great Revett series with an average of 899 (-40) his new year’s performance of 949 (+10) must have Martin scratching his head. However with a new mast in the boat the Parkers will be seeking some of that old form before the winter champs. On the flip side the award best improver goes to the girlies Louise and Cathy in the their RS200 sailing to 1044 before Christmas and then to 1020 after.

Handicap Fleet

In the Handicap fleet Richard Catchpole RS300, Mark Lunn Enterprise and Ed Thomas all broke the ave -100 barrier. However top performer sailing must go to Christian Day his N12 to an ave PY of 989 (-94) over the highest number of races, they must have been on the Red Bull as it certainly does give you wiings! Not far behind were the Solo’s of Graeme Bristow and Steve White sailing to an average PY of 1068 (-85) & 1072 (-81)respectively, with Tom Wallwork the best of the Topper fleet on 1269 (-67). Mark Dinsdale was closest to “Mr Bang on the money” sailing his Phantom to 1025 (+2)

Before Christmas Chris Gillard dominated the Solo fleet sailing his boat to amazing PY of 1033 (-120). Paul Heath in the same boat after Christmas also took the series win to an average of 1099 (-54) , so a bit more speed needing to be found Heathy!

Jnr fleet – there’s hardly anything between the top 4. Tom Wallwork sailed his Topper to (-67) with James Grummett less than a boat length behind on (-66). Similarly Nick Devereux is only 1pt in front of Hayden Griffiths on (-59) and (-58). It should be a close season between the four of them

For interest here’s how the Handicap fleet results would look if the Solo & Junior Fleet where added back in.
