Southport 12-Hour Race – our Juniors did us proud!!

The team was set up early Saturday morning for Julia’s 7.20am briefing, ready for the off at 8.00am in a light force 2 breeze. Harvey & Lewis got the Enterprise team underway and we soon...

MP Jo Platt supports Leigh & Lowton’s RYA “Try Sailing” day

Jo Platt, MP for Leigh, came along to Pennington Flash to check out the RYA Try Sailing day (Push the Boat Out). She arrived to see bright sunshine and the lake full of boats and activity with many of our members and visitors out on the water. She stayed for a cup of tea and a chat, discussing the philosophy of getting youngsters and adults outdoors and active, an aim clearly in line with the club’s activities. Sailing provides a great opportunity...

RYA “Try Sailing” day a big success on Pennington Flash

The club hosted a very successful Try Sailing day on Saturday 12th May at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club.  A total of 150 people new to the sport of sailing took to the water for a test sail on a balmy day on the flash.  Many joined up for family and junior memberships, taking up the offers to join courses run by the club’s members to teach them RYA Level 1 and Level 2 sailing and with the opportunity to...

RS400 Winter Championships 2018 sponsored by Rooster & Rope4Boats

A good turnout of 25 boats made the trip to Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club for the 2018 RS400 Winter Championships. Forecasts of light N to NW winds were understated as the fleet had some good tactical winds with enough pressure to get those early-season hiking muscles warmed up, particularly on the second day. Both days started with a mill pond but filled in to give some great close racing. The OOD Gareth Williams did a tremendous job to give...

“Heat wave” hits the last weekend of the Icicle Series

A positively tropical day after the extreme cold of the last few weeks was just the tonic for the last week of the Tipsy Icicle Series at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club on Sunday 11th March. Competitors enjoyed a 5-7 knot light wind race in the first followed by 10 knots gusting 14 in the finale. The wind oscillated between East and South East for most of the day giving the sailors some of the best sailing of the series,...

Storm Emma fails to disrupt Week 9 of Tipsy Icicle Series!!

After a week of gales, snow and ice a perfect day transpired on Sunday 4th March for the next installment of Leigh & Lowton’s Tipsy Icicle Series. Jetties and slips had been de-iced ready for launching the ribs and committee boat, while weather damage to certain parts of the jetties did not impede access to the water. All that effort was rewarded with a classic day’s racing, an East to ESE oscillating wind in the 8-9 knot range, with gusts...
