Saturday 8th July dawned with a disappointing forecast from the wind strength point of view although the predicted direction was ideal for sailing at Leigh and Lowton; straight down the length of the lake. Three boats made the long drive north from the south and south-west of England to compete for the Europe Inland Shield whilst two local boats and two from Delph Sailing Club competed for the Miracle Inland Cup. In the end, by the start of the first...
LLSC Feva LLSC’s Madeleine Bristow and Lelia Peckham sailed their RS Feva XL to victory at the Bolton NW junior travellers on Sunday. LLSC members may have noticed and indeed heard Graham Bristow coaching daughter number three and crew over the last 12 months at Pennington Flash. He can’t have had too much confidence in his coaching ability as he never taught Madeleine how to make a winners speech! She was literally ‘speechless’ when the occasion arose. She quickly took...
The fourth and final RS Feva Northern open winter training session took place at Ullswater Yacht club on 25 & 26 March with a total 32 RS Feva sailors attending for a fantastic first day training on Good Friday in one of the most spectacular sailing settings in the lake district. Despite the best attempts of Storm Katie to dampen spirits on the Saturday and Sunday, 22 sailors stayed the course and were rewarded with perfect sailing conditions on Monday 28th...
Competitive Finale to LLSC Revett Sailing Series Sunday 13th December saw the final two races of the six week long 2015 Revett winter sailing series. With the promise of a bit of breeze for the first time in 2 weeks the crews of the 45 boats that turned up expectantly were disappointed to find that once again the wind gods had been cruel and all we got was a light north easterly breeze for the first race which died off...
The sun was out but the wind was nowhere to be seen as sailors and spectators turned up for the annual ‘Barts Bash’ race. PRO Alex Morrison signalled a postponement and advised an early dinner and an hour later the flags began to flutter into life as a light southerly breeze filled in, was allowed to steady and then 42 boats went afloat to contest the event. It was one of those frustrating days when you just had to be...
The Solo Northern Travellers series resumed after the summer break with 35 helms arriving at Leigh & Lowton sailing club to be greeted by bright sunshine, an unseasonably high air temperature and absolutely no breeze whatsoever. When what little wind there was occasionally filled in it was not across the whole course and came with big wind shifts of up to 90 degrees and throughout the day, when it was there, averaged 4 to 5 knots over the day....
Over 50 Northern Topper and Optimist competitors were welcomed by Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club for the Topper Traveller (doubling up as Zone indicator) and Optimist Zone training. Unfortunately the wind was not as cooperative as indicated in the forecast and racing was eventually postponed until after 2pm, allowing competitors to indulge in some training from Luke Shaw, the famous LLSC home cooking, canoeing and swimming before lunch in the sunshine! 2 races were held in wind between 1-6 knots and a large...
It doesnt happen too often but Leigh and Lowton scored firsts in all 3 main fleets on Saturdays North West Junior Travellers. Lorcan Knowles, Harvey Leigh and Gareth Staples Jones all won there classes. The Bassenthwaite commodore commented how close the racing was. Finally new LLSC member Noe Peckham picked up the endeavour prize for a plucky performance.
Congratulations from all at Leigh & Lowton SC to Mark and Steve on their win at the Enterprise national championships. They left it late and very close but they did it in the end..http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/178129/Noble-Marine-Enterprise-Nationals-overall
The most popular dinghy winter series in the UK, the ‘Crewsaver’ sponsored Tipsy Icicle series at Leigh & Lowton sailing club, recommenced on the 12th January with another fantastic turnout for races 3 & 4 in the series. Due to events elsewhere and a few ‘no-shows’ there was a reduced turn out this weekend but we still managed to get 78 boats actually on the water and racing of which 25 were new to the series. This means that to date, only two...
