The 2011/12 programme starts on Sunday 6th November with the Guy Fawkes Pursuit race and completes on 18th March 2012 after the UK’s biggest dinghy winter series the Tipsy Icicle. Winter sailing begins with the annual Guy Fawkes Pursuit Race on 6th November 2011, open to monohull dinghies under 21’ (6.4metres) in length from the Optimist through to 49ers (yes, they have entered in the past). In addition to the great news as recently posted below, I have been told today that we have two sailors in the RYA National Youth Laser Squads. Andy Green is sailing with the RYA National Youth Radial Lasers and Andy Stott, a recent new member to the club, is in the RYA National Youth Standard Lasers. Congratulations to both of you.

Entries are invited for the National 12 Inland Championship organised by Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club on 5/6th November 2011 1 RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.2 The RYA prescriptions to the Racing Rules of Sailing will apply. 1.3 The Sailing Instructions will apply. 1.4 Racing rule 40 will be changed – Use of personal buoyancy. When on the water competitors shall wear adequate personal buoyancy.

The finale of the North West Topper Traveller Series 2011

Leigh & Lowton Juniors wrap up the season in style. The finale of the North West Topper Traveller Series 2011 was held at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club with 42 boats competing for honours and fighting for Zone Squad qualification places. With winds varying from force 2 – 5 through the day Leigh provided ideal conditions to test competitors in a wide range of conditions.

Results Laser Solo Paul Allen’s Gallery Malolm Waddington’s Gallery Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club hosted the latest round of the Laser and Solo Northern Travellers on Sunday 25th September. The forecast was spot on – a shifty southerly force 2 – 4. The first race was scheduled to start at 11am with two more to follow during the course of the day. Class captains busied themselves with welcoming visitors whilst the race team led by family Allen and Chris Bassett set about sorting the race area.
