HELP FOR HEROES EVENT 26th MAY 2012
Grand total raised = £431 Thanks to all those who took part in and/or donated to our Help for Heroes Charity Day on Saturday 26th May. A fantastic day on the water with social sailing in the morning – well tea drinking and bacon butties for some whilst the wind was surveyed.
Slowly, boats were rigged and started to take to the water – 32knots was recorded as the Fevas pushed on with their Pre-Nationals training and a lone Opi sailed by Sian blasted across the lake. More tea drinking and Jubilee cup cakes. Then battle commenced at 2pm with the Zenons doing their red arrow fly pasts (of a fashion?!!). The race officer did well to distinguish between the asymmetrics who started late and could have been in the handicap fleet and the asymmetrics who started early but sailed the handicap course!! The commodore demonstrated it was possible to capsize a Laser Bahia much to the surprise of all onboard!! Race 2 brought more swimming and some great spectating moments – Mr Broatch well and truly christening his new boat!! The BBQ was lit, a prize giving held and raffle tickets sold. A frenzy of hungry sailors descended on Ann and Helen who once again managed to do us proud with a great spread. The raffle was drawn on Sunday evening after another top days racing, top prize being scooped by Dianne Griffiths. (Check with Buffy to see if you won a prize as they are behind the bar with your names on).
A big thanks must go to all those who helped with the organisation, OD, rescue, catering, donating prizes, their time to buddy up with new members but a special thanks to Mike Baldwin who took on Ken Irwin’s seed of an idea to host an event for this great cause and push it through to make it happen. Here’s to next year – hope we can order the same weather please Ken?
