Revett Week 3 – Gusty force 5-7!

2011 Revett Results Asymmetric Laser Handicap Solo Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club’s Open Revett Winter Series week 3 continued with not so perfect conditions on Sunday 27th November 2011. In total 24 boats ventured out a very strong and gusty force 5-7 west north westerly. PRO Neil Skellam set a reaching course for the Lasers, Solos & Handicap Fleet and a full windward leeward lap for the Asymmetric Fleet.

In the Asymmetric fleet Dave Exley and Nigel Hall in the RS400 took over at the front from Hamish Gledhill who showed great form but struggled a little bit with a new crew this week. Caroline Exley and Jude Allen, also in a RS400, were close behind in 3rd and the Laser 2000 of Smee & Banford was 4th.

After another competitive day’s racing it’s still tight at the top of the Laser fleet with only 2 points separating the top two. Dave Shiel and Paul Heath were close again this weekend both having a bullet and a 2nd. Graeme Macwhirter and Howard Green were also both in the running but caught out a time or two in the gusts.

The handicap fleet was again the largest of the day with 9 starters. Jez Entwistle (Phantom) showed the fleet the way round in both races with two clear victories. Paul Allen (RS300) and Paul Reid (Phantom) were also quick in second and third spots. Bobby Hewitt (Optimist) had another great day finishing both races with a 3rd and a 6th – another great day and a well done to one of Leigh’s greatest juniors. The Solo fleet was a little depleted this week due to the weather but Leigh and Lowton’s Solo Fleet Captain Mike Broatch led from the start to win the second race from Brian Holt.

The stage continues to be set for another brilliant winter series. The overall results in all fleets are all very close and it will exciting right to the end of the series. Week 4 is on Sunday 4th December and it is only £5pp per day and £4 for juniors for the premier winter series in North West. The galley is serving hot meals throughout the day and visitors and spectators are invited to watch the fun from the new lounge extension.

And lastly a big thank you to everyone on safety duty this week. Coping with bad weather and cold conditions the sometimes unsung heores are sometimes forgotten about in all the excitement of the racing. Thank you!!
