The GJW Direct Insurance (GJW) sponsored 2012 Winter Season concluded at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club on Sunday the 9th of December 2012 with the Revett Series. Quite a wild day, with a 33mph gusts, greeted the 51 boats who arrived to take part in the fifth and final weekend of the 2012 series. Overall a total 120 boats have taken to the water for this series. The race teams for final the day consisted of Martin & Liam Parker on the water and Anne & Helen in the galley.
Series race 8 started at 12 noon on the dot with the Asymmetric fleet. The fleet was led by Paul & Mike Allen (Leigh & Lowton SC/RS400) who did a horizon job on the fleet with the Dave Exley & Nigel Hall (Leigh & Lowton SC/RS400) and Hamish Gledhill & Simon Dowse (West Riding SC/RS400) following them in. Race 8 in the Laser fleet was won by Andy Green (Leigh & Lowton SC) followed by Paul Heath (Leigh & Lowton SC. After a hearty lunch the second race of the day was started and sailed in a building breeze where staying upright was the order of the afternoon. The Asymmetric fleet was led by again Paul & Mike Allen with Dave & Nigel again following them. By following the Allen’s in, and by beating Mike Hart & Sally Kirkpatrick on the water (even after a capsize), Dave & Nigel secured the series win. Andy Green, having already secured the series sat out Race 9 in the Laser fleet and left Gareth Staples-Jones to secure the race win. The Handicap fleet was chaos as the wind built but the race and the series was secured by Haydn Griffiths (Leigh & Lowton SC/Topper).
The Solo fleet (starting as part of the handicap fleet start) was dominated by Chris Gillard (Sheffield Viking SC) in race 8 and Andy Fox (Crosby SC) in race 9 with Ian Hopwood (Nantwich & Border Counties SC) and Steve White (Leigh & Lowton SC) in close attendance.
