GJW Revett Series Week 3 – A wet & chilly day greeted the 60 boats
Results can be found using this link. The GJW Direct Insurance (GJW) sponsored Winter Season continued at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club on Sunday the 25th of November 2012 with the Revett Series. A wet & chilly day greeted the 60 boats who arrived to take part in the fourth weekend of the 2012 series. However by the start of the first race a steady force 4 north westerly was blowing straight down the Flash. Now in total 108 boats have taken to the water for this series. The race teams for the day consisted of Dave Shiel, Paul Heath & Richard Catchpole on the water and Anne & Helen in the galley.
Series race 5 started at 12 noon on the dot with the asymmetric fleet. The fleet was led by Curtis Mearns & Jamie Catchpole (Leigh & Lowton SC/29er) who did a horizon job on the fleet, Dave Exley & Nigel Hall (Leigh & Lowton SC/RS400) and Mike Budd & Joe Hartigan (Leigh & Lowton SC/RS400) and Paul & Mike Allen (Leigh & Lowton SC/RS400). The first race in the laser fleet was again dominated by Andy Green (Leigh & Lowton SC) whose boat speed was fantastic. The handicap fleet was dominated by the Toppers of James Grummett (Burwain SC) & Tom Wallwork (Leigh & Lowton SC).
After a light lunch the second race of the day was started and sailed in a dying breeze. The asymmetric fleet was led by Dave & Nigel and Mike Hart & Sally Kirkpatrick (Port Dinorwic SC/RS400) with Caroline Exley & Jude Allen (Leigh & Lowton SC/RS400) both close behind. Race 6 in the laser fleet witnessed Andy doing another horizon job with Graham Macwhirter following. The handicap fleet was chaos as the wind dropped to zero and the race lasted over 90 minutes – the Principal Race Officer offered an apology as the call should have been to shorten the race one lap earlier.
The Solo fleet (starting as part of the handicap fleet start) was dominated by Ian Hopwood (Nantwich & Border Counties SC) in race 5 and Chris Gillard (Sheffield Viking SC) in race 6 with Steve White (Leigh & Lowton SC) in close attendance.
All in all it was an excellent day at the club with close racing throughout the fleets. Thanks to all the visitors for coming to the club and to everyone from the club who helped to run the day. See you all on December 2nd for round four.
