Tipsy Week 4 – Pedestrian action compared to last week

Tipsy Results On the 29th January 2012 the UK’s biggest winter series, Leigh & Lowton’s Tipsy Icicle continued with its run of 11 weeks. Fleets consisted of Asymmetric, Handicap, Solos and Lasers. After 4 weeks of the series we have already had 106 boats on the water. The galley was open all day and the bar was serving drinks from 3pm. The breeze was a fickle south-easterly 1 to 4 knots and the temperature was low. The PRO again had to take on the challenge of setting a course in a tricky direction for Pennington Flash.

Compared to last weekend races 7 & 8 in the Asymmetric fleet saw some pedestrian downwind action with Dave Exley & Nigel Hall taking line honours in race 7 and Hamish Gledhill & Simon Dowse taking the honours in race 8. Paul and Mike Allen were however boat of the day with 2 seconds.

The Laser fleet was again dominated in both races 7 & 8 by Ian Jones. Following Ian in was Paul Heath who scored a 2 & 3, Howard Green a 3 & 4 and Kim Cant a 4 & 2.
The Solo fleet was again dominated in races 7 & 8 by Ian Hopwood. Malcolm Waddington scored 2 seconds this weekend with Malcolm Waddington and Dave Logan were just off the front scoring in the 3 & 4 respectively.

In races 7 & 8 the handicap fleet was dominated by the National 12 of Christian Day & Sophie Richards and the RS300 of Richard Catchpole.

This was week 4 for Leigh’s dedicated winter series PRO who is demonstrating consistency in his approach which is being greatly appreciated by all the fleets. All in all it was another great day’s sailing at Leigh with members and guests having thoroughly enjoyed the quieter and lighter conditions for what was a chilly day in the office.
