Revett Week 2 – 57 Boats enjoy tactical racing
2011 Revett Results Asymmetric Laser Handicap Solo
Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club’s open Revett Winter Series week 2 continued with perfect conditions on Sunday 20th November. In total 57 boats, including visitors from Sheffield Viking, Bassenthwaite, Elton, Crosby, Blackpool & Fleetwood and West Riding, enjoyed a perfect force 1-2 south easterly breeze. PRO Terry Oliver set a short course for the Lasers and Handicap Fleets and a full windwardleeward lap the length of the flash for the Asymmetrics.
In the Asymmetric fleet Hamish Gledhill continued where he started last week with a bullet and a third in his RS400. Dave Exley was close behind with a 2nd and the Leigh and Lowton’s new Lady Commodore (Cathy Partington) and Louise Mckeand were never far adrift with a bullet and a 3rd. After another hard day’s racing it’s tight at the top of the competitive Laser fleet with only 4 points separating the top three. Dave Shiel, Paul Heath and Graham MacWhirter were all close again this weekend. The handicap fleet was the largest of the day with 29 starters. Chris Gillard (Solo), Paul Allen (RS300) and Christian Day & Sophie Richards (National 12) are currently head of the board allcounting consistent results. Richard Catchpole (RS300) and Steve White (Solo) are not far behind after week 2 of the series.
The stage continues to be set for another brilliant winter series. Week three starts on Sunday 27thNovember. It’s only £5pp per day and £4 for juniors for the premier winter series in North West. The galley is serving hot meals throughout the day and one of the comments over lunch this weekend was “the food is why I come to Leigh for the winter”. Visitors and spectators are invited to watch the fun from the new lounge extension.
