Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club hosted the latest round of the
Laser and Solo Northern Travellers on Sunday 25th September. The forecast was spot on – a shifty southerly force 2 – 4. The first race was scheduled to start at 11am with two more to follow during the course of the day. Class captains busied themselves with welcoming visitors whilst the race team led by family Allen and Chris Bassett set about sorting the race area.

Lasers Report

Race 1 got underway as planned and was lead from the start by Richard Marsh. After a year long break from the laser class, Neil Skellam finished a comfortable 2nd followed by Adrian Sanderlands in third.
Following lunch race two and three were run back to back. One general recall resulted in the black flag making an appearance. This caught out a few of those who ventured over the line within the last minute. Richard Catchpole comfortably won the race. Richard Marsh finished second ahead of Paul Heath in third.
Following 2 black flag general recalls the final race eventually got
underway. Those disqualified made for an early shower whilst the fleet enjoyed the best wind of the day. Neil Skellam, Richard Marsh and Richard Catchpole were all in contention. Neil Skellam rounded the windward mark first and headed safely down the run. Richard Marsh death-rolled to windward and Richard Catchpole was mid fleet. However after one lap Richard Marsh recovered and powered through to take a comfortable win. Neil Skellam held onto second followed by LLSC class captain Chester Candish in third. Richard Marsh won with 2 points, followed by Neil Skellam in second
and a consistent Paul Heath in third. Richard Marsh thanked Leigh and Lowton SC for a good day, and thanked the race team for taming the unruly lasers.

Mitchell rounded the windward mark first and held onto his lead to the finish. Andy Tunnicliffe worked his way through the fleet to take

Tunnicliffe continued his fast to pace to finish some distance ahead
of Oliver Dumbleton in Second. Tony Wright finished a comfortable
third.
The final race started in the best breeze of the day. Big shifts
resulted in some place changes and a planing reach the length of the
Flash. Andy Tunnicliffe, Oliver Dumbleton and Dave Mitchell were all
in contention of winning the event. After 2 laps Andy Tunnicliffe
managed to keep a pressing Oliver Dumbleton in second with Dave
Mitchell securing his third place overall by finishing third.
