Feva Sailing Lessons on Friday Night Junior Training

Friday nights junior training night at Leigh and Lowton sailing club is one of the clubs most industrious evenings (apart from committee meetings of course.) Lots of juniors and youths listen to more knowledgeable instructors sailing tips and then sometimes go and do something completely different. The RS Feva and other junior sailing lessons are run by senior instructor/manager Laura Barnes. She has gained a great deal of respect from the children this year with some even getting their assistant instructors certificates themselves and teaching other children.

Fun and Food

Friday nights is all about junior beginners and junior intermediates some great coaching from our qualified RYA instructors. This week, Charlies dad Colin Jones was in charge of the galley churning food out fit for a king from a complex cooking machine. Dont know how you did but it tasted great!!! Well done. Somebody needs to buy him a pinny for next week though

RS Feva Advanced Boat Speed Training

Last Friday was designated a Friday Feva night where 8 LLSC Feva sailors came together for boat speed training session from 49er Sailor Julia Bowdon and her helm Anna Brooks. Training started promptly at 6.45pm apart from the fact one helm was on a train and the other crew was in a traffic jam!! They where all on the water by 7 for a 1.5 hours of gruelling exercises set up by the 29er pair. They then had to go for a 15 minute pair by pair debrief. One crew commented “They carefully analysed our performance from the RIB then told us what to work on. I particularly enjoyed swapping roles and going back to being a helm for a while, as it made me realise how much I’ve missed it”. Did they improve though?. At the RYA West Lancs NW Junior travellers on the following day the very same sailors scored a 1st 2nd and 3rd in the under 14’s and a third in youth class. Best ever for Fevas!! Job sorted. (Race report to follow)
