Over 50 Northern Topper and Optimist competitors were welcomed by Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club for the Topper Traveller (doubling up as Zone indicator) and Optimist Zone training. It doesnt happen too often but Leigh and Lowton scored firsts in all 3 main fleets on Saturdays North West Junior Travellers. Lorcan Knowles, Harvey Leigh and Gareth Staples Jones all won there classes. The Bassenthwaite commodore commented how close the racing was. Finally new LLSC member Noe Peckham picked up the endeavour prize for a plucky performance.
Optimists have been out in force on three Sundays at Leigh and Lowton Sailing Clubs Winter Series. The North Optimist Championship has been held alongside the Tipsy Icicle and has quickly earned a reputation as the toughest winter oppy racing in the North. A dozen brave juniors took part in the NW IOCA optimist training on Saturday in steady winds as part of the junior winter training program. The LLSC Junior Winter Regatta on 3rd January attracted 44 entries to Pennington Flash. The galley was bustling from 9.00 clock with travellers arriving as far away from Bowmoor, Windemere and Brennig for this annual event. The first race was started from the committee boat on time at 11.00am by OOD Richard Catchpole in a very light NE wind.
